I am almost certain that every one of you reading this would like to find a WAY to RECEIVE more GOOD in your lives – maybe it’s a bigger salary you after, maybe a bigger & better house, who knows, maybe some of you want to go on that dream holiday. If my 37 years has taught me anything, it is that there is only ONE WAY to RECEIVE more of the good that this life has to offer! And that one way is to GIVE out some good to build upon first. Now what do I mean? I mean that we have to give first to activate a Universal Law - which for the purposes of this blog, I am going to call The Law of Receiving. Now, I know some of you are already thinking - “Argh Lee, This sounds very much like a sermon and I hear this same nonsense every Sunday in church when the Pastor wants to elicit my funds to pay for his new Mercedes-Benz”. But if you would all just humour me for a few minutes I’d like to try and explain my understanding of this Law of Receiving.

Back in 2007 I started giving money away on a monthly basis. Every single month when my salary would land I would give away religiously, and the result of this GIVING in my life was nothing short of amazing. At that particular time in my life I was working as an IT Desktop Technician earning a decent but not a great salary. In a short time after I started this practice of giving, great things started happening in my life – my then manager offered to increase my salary by around 30% if I’d complete an MCSE course and pass the exams associated with that course. I did just that, and in turn I received that handsome increase. It didn’t stop there, soon afterwards I got a new job as a consultant and the increase in salary was again substantial. Personally, I’ve been practicing this Law of Receiving for around 8 years now, and I can honestly say that ever since I’ve started giving there has always been enough to take of me. Take my word for it, This Law Works, and it works very well.

Now, I know some of you could be thinking - “How can I give when I have nothing to give?”

Well, you always have something to give - give what you have got. Give your Time, your Energy, your Loyalty, your Knowledge and your Money. Keep giving it and you are going to keep receiving more.

To try and help us make some more sense of this Law of Receiving, I would like to recite a passage from a book titled “Working the Law” by Dr Raymond Holliwell. It goes like this -

“Giving, which is the first or fundamental law of life, is the first law of all creation. The attitude of getting is the law of life in a congested state, or a repressed action. So, as long as “getting” dominates a mind, that mind is in a paralyzed condition, being limited in its action in accord with the fundamental law of creation.”

What a beautiful passage from that book, I love it.

3 POINTS ON THE LAW

Additionally, here are 3 points that I’d like us to consider to further expand on our understanding of this Law of Receiving.

  • In your life experience - Look at someone’s life who gives in a way that YOU respect, and then just notice what’s happening in that person’s life. For me, that person was my aunt’s ex-husband - he was a prolific giver, and the result of his giving is huge financial prosperity today.
  • We have to understand that there are certain laws that govern life, and we have to understand that Receiving is a LAW. Like gravity is a Scientific Law, one that never fails - if you jump off the top of a building you always going to go down, you never going to go up. Similarly, I believe that this Law of Receiving through the practice of giving is a Spiritual Law which works all the time, every time.
  • Do you know what Tithing is? To tithe is to freely give one-tenth of one's income annually to God through the Church. Look I’m not advocating Tithing, because personally I don’t do it. But why is Tithing such a potent form of Giving? Well, it is more potent because you touch the Law of Giving and receiving in a definite, orderly or systematic way of giving. You establish a methodical plan of giving which creates a steady flow of reciprocal good to be received. When one’s method of giving is sporadic or occasional, one’s reception of good is irregular and uncertain.

To those of you who have already made a habit of giving, great for you. My hope is that this blog Inspires everyone else to start giving as well, and then you in turn will start receiving the good that is available to all of us.

I think a good place to end this blog is with a poem by Arthur William Beer. The title of the poem is GIVING, and it goes like this -

To get he had tried,
Yet his store was still meagre.
To a wise man he cried,
In a voice keen and eager;
“Pray tell me how may I successfully live?”
And the wise man replied,
“To get you must give.”

As to giving he said,
“What have I to give?”
I’ve scarcely enough bread,
And of course one must live;
But I would partake of Life’s bountiful store.
Came the wise man’s response;
“Then you must give more.”

The lesson he learned: to get was forgotten,
Toward mankind he turned
With a love new begotten.
As he gave of himself in unselfish living,
Then joy crowned his days,
For he grew rich in giving.
